Perhaps you’ve watched the AKC National Championship<\/a>, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show<\/a>, or the Crufts<\/a> show on TV. The conformation events at these shows are a grander version of locally centered events which happen throughout the United States and other parts of the world. Some shows are for all breeds and others for specific breeds (specialty shows), run by a local breed club or national breed association. Every Sheltie that makes it to one of these prestigious televised events has participated in many specialty and possibly some all-breed shows on the path to qualifying. The SSCA runs its own conformation show event each year, and there have been Shelties from our past shows which have qualified to participate in significant national show events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All AKC breeds have their own standard, against which they are measured in conformation events. Confirmation showing helps sustain and refine the breed’s faithfulness to the breed standard. Shelties are among the most graceful and beautiful dogs in the show ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
